I remain active privately providing counselling for a diverse clientele.
I specialize in trauma related reparation and progression in relation to insecure childhood attachments and provide specific training's aimed at adults who support traumatized and insecurely attached children and young people. Providing the tools to enable the empowerment and development of the children in their care by understanding the communication behind the behaviours.
I am trained in a variety of approaches including but not restricted to:
DDP, (Dyardic developmental practice) (Dan Hughes) which works with a psychodynamic and neuro dynamic approach incorporating PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) a way of working with a child focused approach for children displaying a variety of complex needs related to negative childhood influences and experiences.
Psychodynamic: a view that explains personality in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. Psychodynamic theories commonly hold that childhood experiences shape personality.
Person-Centred therapy, also known as person-centred psychotherapy, person-centred counselling, client-centred therapy, and Rogerian psychotherapy, is a form of psychotherapy developed by psychologist Carl Rogers beginning in the 1940s and extending into the 1980s. a person-centred approach is about ensuring the client is at the centre of decisions which relate to their life. A person-centred process involves listening, thinking together, coaching, sharing ideas, and seeking feedback.
CBT: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It's most used to treat anxiety and depression but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems.
NLP: Sometimes called state control, is a neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) technique involving actively trying to control the emotional and mental state of an individual. One method to actively achieve state management anchoring where an individual associate a physical stimulus.
Enabling Environments group facilitation
Place2Be school counsellor working with children aged between 5 and 11 on a one-to-one basis using sessions to provide support to children who have a sustained need for more intense work. I tailored sessions per each child's needs, in an age-appropriate way. For younger children, my therapeutic approach encourages them to express themselves in non-verbal ways, for example through artwork or play.
I also co- facilitated group counselling working on issues such as friendship, self-esteem, concentration, confidence, and bullying. The Place 2 Talk is a drop-in service and a quiet place to talk and play during the busy school day. It is open to all pupils through self-referral. This helped children understand my role in the school and allowed me to identify children who need more in-depth support.
I worked with The Croydon drop-in Centre helping a diverse clientele, utilizing talking therapies to provide space for them to talk through issues that may be of concern. This varies from coping with the day-to-day ups and downs, suicidal idealisation and self-harm tendencies, extra support may be needed such as people feeling anxious or angry all the time. Sleep may feel disrupted, and things may just feel overwhelming.
I am qualified to set up and facilitate group sessions, Enabling Environments (EE) and therapeutic communities (TC)
Counselling can provide a safe place to talk and to help clients understand what is happening to them and how they can put things in place to help themselves.
I maintain secure records and attend supervision.
